Community Fund Allocations: September 2007

The September Area Committee meeting of the Co-operative Group in Cambridge saw another set of Community Fund (previously Community Dividend) awards. This time, we were able to support three organisations to a total tune of almost £5000.

Mepal Sports Action Group (Mepal is a village in the fens between Ely and Chatteris) were awarded £500 for the provision of tables and chairs at their new pavillion.

In Melbourn, All-Saints Playgroup and Preschool were awarded £1,509 towards various items of equipment required in order to continue their provision to all members of the community, regardless of ability to pay.

And finally, the excellent community radio station in Cambridge - 209 Radio - were awarded £2970 in order to train new volunteers in all the skills necessary to keep the station on the air. This award will benefit both the volunteers themselves, who will gain skills and confidence - and all the listeners of the station who enjoy its eclectic music mix, and community programmes.

Entirely coincidentally, I note that 209 Radio were in the news recently for finally getting a license to broadcast on FM. Congratulations! If you live in Cambridge you should now be able to tune in on 105FM as well as online.

(Warning!: Repeat blurb follows!)...
Once again, a big thank you to every Co-operative Group member in Cambridge and East Anglia who chooses to donate the odd-pence - or even more - to the Community Fund scheme. Your generousity is appreciated, and does make a real difference in our communities. You can change your donation options by logging in to your account on the Co-operative Group website.

If you would like to apply for Community Fund support for a project with charitable aims (note: the organisation itself does not need to be registered as a charity), then either pick up a leaflet at a Co-op store, or visit the Fund Webpages. Applications are particularly welcome from projects that reflect our Co-operative Values and Principles and active citizenship.
